The pattern is well-established by now, as is the purpose behind the pattern. The opposition has drawn and tasted blood in the Gujarat elections and they will do everything to derail India’s growth story. Divide and Rule might have been an idea floated by the British to rule India, but it was mastered by the Congress long ago. The Congress wants our nation to go back to medieval times instead of moving into the future. It is against this backdrop that we must view the recent incidents that resulted in violence across the state of Maharashtra.
PREFACE
Being born in an upper caste is a privilege even today. Even today large sections of our society suffer discrimination because of their caste. A community with such a history of injustice, neglect and social discrimination is bound to hold grudge against its oppressors. But to use events of the past to ignore facts, to rationalize narratives built to carry forward particular agendas would be to our peril. To ignore the ideology that drives caste politics and its resultant violence would be to ignore the real reason behind the continuing surge in violent protests.
In our Shastras it is written:
“Satyam bruyat, priyam bruyat, na bruyat satyam apriyam”
Which means “Speak the truth, speak the pleasant, but do not speak the unpleasant truth”. It is time we rectify this by saying “Bruyat satyam apriyam” i.e., “Speak the unpleasant truth”, for to turn a blind eye, to be indifferent, or worse, to be politically correct and tolerate the inconvenient truth would be like watering a giant poisonous tree. This blog aims to demolish false arguments and call out those who have been less than truthful with facts. However, the arguments presented in the article are in no way any attempt to negate the atrocities Dalits were subjected to in the past or are still subjected to in some parts of India.
APRIYAM SATYAM
Public memory unfortunately is notoriously short in this wondrous land of ours. As a result, events of the past are rapidly forgotten, thus erasing the collective memory of the public. A logical extension of this reality is why we, as a nation, have a poor, almost non-existent, sense of history. It is this amnesia the venal leaders of the politically bankrupt Congress, the perpetually aggrieved jholawallahs and the intellectually compromised media persons deviously use to plot crusades for reasons too well known to merit reiteration.
Myths are often required to build movements. The Dalits took caste as a natural order and their oppression as the fate that they had to meekly endure. Contrary to myths of bravery, there is no evidence of any militant resistance the Dalits ever posed against the upper caste oppression, leave apart physical war against them. To make the battle fought at Koregaon appear as anti-caste will not only be factually incorrect but also an erroneous understanding of our history. The fact is that soldiers of both armies simply fought as soldiers for their masters. It would be grossly erroneous to attribute loftier motives to them than this. Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar perhaps saw it as a necessity to paint the battle as one fought against oppression. But a century later, when such myths solidify into quasi-history and pitch communities of one nation against each other, it should become a worrisome matter. While the resolve to fight oppression is certainly laudable, the myth used for this purpose only creates division, whereas the necessity is to transcend them. The deliberate though subtle attempt to twist narratives to create a regime of anti-semitism is unmistakable. The Congress’ and the left-liberal intellectual mafia’s plot to exploit caste for political gains is obvious. Those spreading venom in the society by celebrating the Bhima-Koregaon battle as a caste-struggle need to be shunned. As things stand, the myths created in the past, are today being used by the likes of Umar Khalid and his “Tukde Tukde Gang” to create divisions in the society.
Police say that the speeches made at the Elgar Parishad conclave on December 31 triggered violence the next day during the commemorative celebration of the Bhima Koregaon battle. Police had arrested five persons then and recovered some documents including a letter. The police claimed that the letter talked about a plot to assassinate Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a “Rajiv Gandhi-type” attack.
ELGAAR PARISHAD
In a country where outrage is often manufactured with the help of the left-liberal media, it is only natural that those seeking to divide society for political gains do something sufficiently dramatic to capture the attention of windbags masquerading as intellectuals. And so it is that group of soldiers of democracy as they would like to be known and worshipped by the neo-literate and illiterate masses has decided to exploit caste to create a barrier reef by stitching together a coalition to stop the Modi wave from raising again.
The Bhima-Koregaon incident is a testament to the fact that history is often used to aid modern political mobilisation. And when history doesn’t suit the narrator, it is twisted to suit the narrative. The Congress, left and their media stooges have time and again adopted this policy to misguide the masses. Elgaar Parishad, a part of a massive celebration of the Battle of Bhima Koregaon was planned over the last day of 2017 and the first of 2018. Jignesh Mevani, an MLA from Vadgam, Gujarat was expected to speak at this event organized at Pune’s historic Shaniwar Wada, the headquarters of the Peshwas. Mevani was not the only attraction at the Elgaar Parishad. Also invited to speak at the event were Umar Khalid, the Jawaharlal Nehru University student who was at the centre of the controversial slogan-shouting incident last year, Chhattisgarh activist Soni Sori, and Vinay Ratan Singh, the national president of the Bhim Army. The roots of the current violence at Bhima-Koregaon lie here.
While caste fault lines have existed in India since ages, recent incidents prove that these fault lines are being exploited like never before. From Patels in Gujarat to Jats in Haryana, from Lingayats in Karnataka to Rajputs in Rajasthan, and now Dalits in Maharashtra. Some rule by dividing religions, some rule by dividing caste, some rule by dividing language, some rule by dividing gender – the Congress stands at the forefront for mastering the art of dividing on all fronts. As MoS for Home Affairs, Kiren Rijiju tweeted,
निशाने पर न ब्राह्मण है, न मराठा है, न राजपूत है, न गुर्जर है, न दलित है, न पिछड़े है। जगह के हिसाब से जातियां बदलेगी, क्योंकि निशाने पर भारत है
This politics of division threatens the very idea of a ‘unified India’. If such divisive politics is not checked, such violent incidents would be repeated in every nook and corner of the country. It is time to shut out this new breed of urban naxals, the likes of Mevani and Hardik and Umar Khalid, who thrive upon the politics of hatred for vested political interests.
CONCLUSION
Social harmony is never accidental. It must be systematically strived for. The battle lines have been drawn for the 2019 general elections. The Congress and their pets continue their deplorable practice of turning tragedy into farce in pursuit of cynical politics. The despicable manner in which people like Mevani, Hardik Patel, Umar Khalid, Kanhaiya Kumar etc. are being used to damage national interest only underscores this fact. The Congress and its poodles in the media will continue to manufacture a bagful of lies in the run-up to the next general elections. They will continue to create narratives that will serve the twin purposes of not just maligning the Modi government but also polarise voters along caste lines. It is undeniable that the sole intention of the Congress and its minions, who are today clamouring for Dalit upliftment, is hoping to succeed in their divide-and-rule mission by instigating resentment against each other – upliftment is the last thing on their minds. But no matter how hard the Congress and its owners try, they cannot stop an idea whose time has come. Nothing, and absolutely nothing, must be allowed to come in the way of nation’s aspiration. It is time that Indians woke up to all this. But it is possible only if we change our mindset, when we rid our minds of casteism and communalism, when we train our mind to become a rational mind, a logical mind a questioning mind, a scientific mind. It is only then that India will shine. And until that happens the vast masses of our people will continue to be taken for a ride. Those who sell the nation’s interest to keep themselves in clover must be defeated. The Dalit voters were brazenly sought for their votes, often resorting to crassly casteist rhetoric. However, there is a declining appeal for cynical identity politics. A New India is emerging which is powered by the strength and skills of its people. This India stands for development, and this New India is getting increasingly impatient with narrow identity politics.
