Playing Judge, Jury and Executioner

The rabble rouser is not the Yogi, but the hate mongering journalists and editors who seek to demean the verdict of the masses. Yogi Adityanath will prove to be a popular and effective Chief Minister, overseeing a regime of peace, harmony and justice for all.

“Hindutva” is not a word but a history. Not only the spiritual or religious history of our people as at times it is mistaken to be by being confounded with the other cognate term Hinduism, but a history in full. Hinduism is only a derivative, a fraction, a part of Hindutva. Hindutva embraces all departments of thought and activity.

— Swatantryaveer Vinayak Damodar Savarkar

In a 1995 judgement, the Supreme Court of India ruled that, “Ordinarily, Hindutva is understood as a way of life or a state of mind and is not to be equated with or understood as religious Hindu fundamentalism…it is a fallacy and an error of law to proceed on the assumption…that the use of words Hindutva or Hinduism per se depicts an attitude hostile to all persons practicing any religion other than the Hindu religion. It may well be that these words are used in a speech to promote secularism or to emphasize the way of life of the Indian people and the Indian Culture or either, or to criticize the policy of any political party as discriminatory or intolerant”. Such are the definitions of Hindutva. Yet today, left-liberals and media propogandists have manipulated this narrative to suit their agendas. Today, anyone talking Hindutva is labelled, boycotted, made untouchable. The media surprise, shock and hysteria over Yogi Adityanath’s appointment is entertaining. The self-proclaimed champions of secularism suddenly look concerned about the future of the nation, social harmony and the equation with minorities. The pattern is similar to what we saw when Narendra Modi was chosen as Bharatiya Janata Party’s Prime Ministerial candidate. The same media that termed Modi as “God of Hate” is seeing a “rabble-rouser” in the saffron robed monk, Yogi Adityanath. While criticism of his brand of politics is acceptable, the vicious campaign unleased by the mainstream media is certainly not justified. Playing Judge, Jury and Executioner is not the job of the media.

Yogi Adityanath’s performance as a parliamentarian has been exceptional. He has consistently raised issues that affect the common citizens and has never been involved in any kind of hate speeches. The image being portrayed by the media only displays their contempt towards Hindutva

Uttar Pradesh has been communally volatile, especially during the Samajwadi Party regime, but eastern UP remained largely free from any such unrest. It was in this region when Narendra Modi was campaigning during the 2014 Lok Sabha polls that Maanvela, a small village in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh with a high Muslim population was chosen for an election rally. Contrary to the media perception, the rally not only gathered huge crowds but also saw Muslims themselves come forward and offer their agricultural lands for the rally. The reason: Yogi Adityanath had helped the Muslims get their dues for the land acquired by the Gorakhpur Development Authority. It was this Gorakhpur where the Yogi’s tryst with politics began in 1996 when he was named in charge of Mahant Avaidyanath’s (his Guru) election campaign. A B.Sc graduate (1993) from Garhwal University in Uttrakhand, Yogi Adityanath made his parliament debut at the age of 26 after winning the election from Gorakhpur in 1998. He continued to win the seat for successive five times with large margins. Through his Gorakhpur Dham, Yogi Adityanath runs several degree and polytechnic colleges and a Sanskrit college with free boarding facilities, and all having a good Muslim presence. He runs one of the best hospitals catering to the poor and underprivileged. The grand temple in his ashram sees maximum shops run by Muslims as well. His work towards his constituency extended his influence beyond Gorakhpur to cover the entire eastern UP region.

For several years, Yogi Adityanath faced hostile governments both at the central and state levels. In spite of spending most of the funds allocated to his constituency, it remained largely backward and poor owing to this discrimination. However, big ticket development arrived after emergence of Modi. The Yogi successfully managed to set up a state-of-the-art 700 bed branch of AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences) with the help of the NDA government at the centre. A defunct fertilizer plant having a potential of generating thousands of jobs was also revived. Today, many more employment generating programmes, including several national highway projects are planned to benefit his constituency.

Hindutva encompasses in its fold all – atheists, believers, agnostics, iconoclasts, temple worshipers and anyone and everyone. “Utsav ho, Upadrav nahi!” (Let there be celebrations, not hooliganism) was Yogi Adityanath’s first message to his followers. The rabble rouser is not the Yogi, but the hate mongering journalists and editors who seek to demean the verdict of the masses. Yogi’s UP will be as development oriented as the government at the centre, and as the governments run by other BJP Chief Ministers. Yogi Adityanath will prove to be a popular and effective Chief Minister, overseeing a regime of peace, harmony and justice for all.

A few examples of media propaganda defaming Yogi Adityanath

Just spoke to young entrepreneurs in Lucknow. Most voted BJP. Every single one said had #YogiAdityanath been CM face they would not have.

But isn’t it less claustrophobic for the BJP now? No more pretence of development and sabka saath sabka vikaas. Back to the communal selves
— Rana Ayyub (@RanaAyyub) 18 March 2017

Criminal intimidation, attempt to murder, trespassing on burial places, rioting: some charges against new UP CM. Cheerio folks
— Sagarika Ghose (@sagarikaghose) 18 March 2017

By selecting @yogi_adityanath Modi gives clear signal of Hindutva politics ahead. But did UP people vote him for this?
— Nikhil Wagle (@waglenikhil) 18 March 2017

Make no mistake. The appointment of Yogi Adityanath is a masterstroke by the BJP for 2019. At least the mask has been taken off
— Nidhi Razdan (@RazdanNidhi) 18 March 2017

Unfair to say Modi/BJP hadn’t given us a clue. @yogi_adityanath is only a logical next step to politics of not fielding one Muslim in 403
